Four photos from the same day. Women in a court-
yard in the city of Shkodra display the large amount
of fabric (more than 10 meters) needed to make a
pair of ‘bernavekas’. The material was usually dark,
black, but there was also red, always shiny.
The dress is typical for the Catholic women of the city
of Shkodra. The photographs were first published in
the big- gest magazines of the time, including Nation-
al Geographic
